Proposal : to delete rules 8.13.1 and 8.13.2

Rule 8.13.1     Foredeck: Shall extend from stem to a point not less than 1422mm aft of stem. Holes not axceeding a total area of 0.13sq.m. may be allowed but must be watertight or self-draining. The foredeck shall not fall below shear level.

Rule 8.13.2    Sidedecks: Shall extend from the foredeck to stern and shall not be less than 177mm in width between vertical projections from the outermost edge of the gunwale and the inner edge of the deck or the point where the deck returns below sheer level.

Reasons for:   It is hoped that by removing the measuring restrictions on decks, boats can be built and rebuilt quicker, easier and hopefully cheaper. It is also hoped that aesthetically this will modernize the look of the class and bring us in line with other modern skiff classes, i.e. int 14’s, cherubs, 49er’s etc.

Please make note that removing these rules will not make foredecks illegal, Boats can still be built with a foredeck if you so choose too.

Also due to other rules already in place controlling maximum boat width, minimum weight and outriggers prohibited, it is believed that these changes can not improve a boats performance merely it’s aesthetics and function.
