President's Report
Well it has been quite a while since my last report and so much
has happened. To bring you up to speed here is a quick summary
of events since the last newsletter
Thompson Sails Grand Prix Series was
held at Albert Part, Elwood, Altona, Beaumaris and Chelsea Yacht
Club. Results to be announced at Presentation Night. Six heats
were sailed, all good opportunities for class promotion.
Pool Night held at the Hilderbrand's, Chelsea.A merry crowd of
about 40 turned up to Quentin & Lyn's, where we enjoyed great
company, great food, drink, and some pretty questionable pool
playing. The ultimate prize was taken by Andrew W. and Sumo.
Thanks to Quentin and Lyn for their hospitality and a great night.
By the way, Quentin's moving house so we are in search of a new
venue for the pool night for next year.
National Championships held at Koombana Bay Sailing Club, Bunbury
WA. Once again, the Victorian Javs have shown superiority over
our WA counterparts, with Brett Williams & I teaming up to
win the Javelin Nationals - Yahoooo! We had a great time in the
west, where we made very welcome by the WA crowd. (see Narelle's
wrap-up) Whilst there was disappointment in only one Victorian
boat making the trip across, they were understanding, and certainly
are looking forward to us all meeting up on mass in Adelaide
at Easter 2001. My personal thanks to Brett, for a great time,
great sailing and a great win! Thanks also to Warren Smith (&
Brett) for letting me sail on his boat. Unplugged is beautifully
set-up and in great tune, and is a compliment to you both.
Cray Night held at Chelsea Yacht Club, Feb 5. Once again the
annual Javelin Cray Night was a huge success with 148 people
attending. I would like to personally thank all those who contributed
to the night and making the job of organising such a big event
so much easier. I would also like to pay special thanks to Highams
Meats who supplied all the steaks (which were bloody beautiful)
and donated the meat platter for the raffle. The Mullins' continue
to be of great support to the Javelin Association and I thank
them very much. Thanks also to Williamstown Chandlery for their
generous donation of boat shoes for the raffle. I would encourage
you all to get on down to the re-vamped Williamstown Chandlery
where John Dusting will look after your every Javelin sailing
need.
State Titles (Heats 1-4) held at Altona & Elwood. Two heats
at both Altona and Elwood have seen good numbers on the water
(17 at Altona) and once again it looks like being a close tussle
for the championship between Unplugged, LA Woman and The Other
Woman.
On the personal front, Richard Layton (aka Dicko) announced his
engagement to Oksana, NZ Craig Estcourt to Belinda, and Duncan
Russell to Sue. Nicole & Greg Parsons became a mum &
dad to Hayden...and Josh Galland has taken his first steps.
Looking to the remainder of this season,
we have the following upcoming events:
· Remaining heats of Javelins State Titles at Blairgowrie
Yacht Squadron, March 11,12,13.
· State Presentation Night - Sat May 13.
· Annual General meeting - Sat June 3. (see Sailing
Calendar)
Planning is already underway for the
following next seasons events:
South Pacific Champs in Wellington, NZ (Xmas-NewYear 2000). We
are currently exploring shipping costs Melb-Wellington and are
also looking into some sponsorship to help subsidies the costs
of getting boats/people to and from NZ. If anyone thinks they
may be able to assist with sponsorship, please contact either
Steve Low or myself. At present, it looks like there are approximately
10 boats interested in making the trip to NZ, which includes
3 from WA. If you are interested in going to NZ please let Peter
Layton or myself know. We shall keep you posted as more information
comes to hand.
National Championships Easter 2001 at Brighton-Seacliffe Sailing
Club, South Australia. The proposed dates for these National
Championships are Saturday April 14 - Saturday April 21, 2001,
so put this in your diary and book those holidays. I expect
a large turn out for these championships with a large contingent
from both WA and Victoria
If anyone is interested in joining the
Javelin committee please let me know. See you all on the water.
Cheers Mitch. |
